The New York City Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Act went into effect on August 2, 2004. Landlords in New York City will have to verify whether a child under 7 resides in an apartment and, if so, conduct an inspection at least annually, and more often if necessary, for lead paint hazards. Here is a summary of the new law, and the text of the repealed law (thanks to the NEW YORK CITY COALITION to END LEAD POISONING (NYCCELP) ). Here is an article about the law printed in the New York Daily News.
