New York Loses A Great Jurist

I unfortunately learned from a former co-clerk of mine today that Judge Jasen of the New York Court of Appeals recently passed away (see article in NYLawyer.com here [free subscription reqJasen_matthew_largeuired]).  Although I never had the honor of meeting or working with him, Judge Jasen’s amazing decisions and his reputation at the Court inspired me during my clerkship and still inspire me to strive for what I think the correct result should be.  Although most will point to People v. Ferber as one of Judge Jasen’s great opinions (as a dissenter), my favorite Judge Jasen opinion is Voss v. Black  & Decker Mfg., one of the cornerstone products liability cases in this state.  This opinion displays the clarity to which Judge Jasen strived for in his opinion writing.

I hope readers will take the time to honor Judge Jasen and his family by sharing his or her experiences with Judge Jasen or discussing a favorite Judge Jasen opinion.
